My leukemia's back.

Sounds like I missed a lot during the last couple of weeks I've been gone! I'll try to catch up, but don't count on it! :hmm

Home until Thursday, then back on the road again. I'll be so glad when this year is over, and that will be August 12 at 4 pm! Sharp!
BLOOIE!!!!!! :hugs
How are the kids?

Typically, if you report the accident to your own insurance company, since they're not the one that fixes the vehicle, there is no deductible, OR they collect the deductible from the other insurance company. It's only when your insurance company fixes the vehicle that you pay a deductible.
Or you file with your company, they fix the car then go against the other party's company. They do not GUARANTEE you'll get your deductible but I suspect they usually do. In the interim, your bank account is out the deductible. Not everyone's account can take that kind of an unplanned hit so you could be out the use of your vehicle until the companies work things out and your vehicle is repaired.

The lady that hit me didn't remember anything about the accident so her insurance wasn't taking responsibility until they saw the police report ..... which can take 30 days :thI had filed the claim with her company after I got out of the ER and held off filing with mine. Even though there wasn't 0.00000000000001% chance the accident was in any way my fault, I didn't want it in my insurance record. But after a week+ the other lady's insurance rep called and told me she wanted me to pay to get the car towed from where the wrecker took it to my house or somewhere that didn't charge (*). Turns out those places rape for daily "storage fees" - $60 a day to have the car sitting out of the way in an area they wouldn't be using for anything anyway.

That is when I filed with my company, they towed the car somewhere they didn't have to accumulate storage fees and took it from there. I knew the car was totalled from talking to the guy at the towing company, they know these things ;), went to clean it out 4 days after the accident. No question, totalled. Could have been repaired but would have cost well in excess of the value of the car. Looked at and bought the replacement car a few hours later, the lady's company didn't even have to pay for a rental car.

My company sent someone to look at the car, agreed it was totalled (as the lady's company had already determined several days prior) and sent the check minus $1K which they sent when they received the second fob and the title to the car. Now my medical records are going to both companies, mine is (I guess) paying them and will collect from the other company. Yes, they finally did get the police report and no surprise the lady was found to be at fault.

* she had already agreed, off the record, her client was very likely at fault and wanted to limit their costs though she didn't specifically say that.

In the meantime, Mitsubishi repaired the belt again. Within a week, it broke again. Now, I was upset. In less than a month we've gone through 3 belts. They finally figured out that the tensioner was out of alignment, and got the whole thing fixed correctly.
Seems like Mitsu is CLEARLY at fault. They should have looked at everything in the area of the belt when they replaced it the first time, belts don't often go. And when a second belt went in 1 week, they have NO excuse for not figuring out why. Belts often last 100s of thousands of miles, 1 week is way beyond suspicious.

In other words, double dipping.
The judge should get the state's insurance "overseer" involved and revoke the company's right to do business. No question they are happy to commit fraud.

Okay, now I have to scroll back....what accident? Man, I miss a lot begin gone!!

Kids are great, Bruce, thanks for asking, although you may be sorry! Kenny and Jenny took Kendra to Denver for her Spina Bifida clinics and Katie stayed with us while they were gone. That meant packing for her too, and taking her along with us for Ken's visitations in Kemmerer and Lander since it fell over her spring break from school. We kinda made a mini-vacation out of it, taking her to Fossil Buttes National Monument near Kemmerer and Sinks Canyon in Lander. That's kinda of a cool place....the Popo Agie River disappears into the limestone cliffs and reemerges in a quiet pond 1/4 mile downstream called the "Rise". (That's pronounced "Po Po Zsah", the Crow words for "Grass River".) But it takes the water over 2 hours to reemerge because of all the fissures in the cliffs! Kinda neat to see. She also got to shop in the nation's first JC Penney's store, right there in Kemmerer. She's been on the honor roll every quarter of Middle School. I can't believe she'll be in 8th grade next school year.

Report on Kendra. We wanted a thorough MRI done this time (not the quick ones they've done for the past 6 years) on the ventricles in her brain. Her seizures are reaching the point of the ridiculous - one day she had 8 in less than two hours, 16 total that one day. So we wanted to get to the bottom of why she has them, or at least why so many. She's on 3 anti-seizure medications, for crying out loud! So they agreed that if her ventricles contained more Cerebral Spinal fluid than they had before, the pressure might be causing the seizures and she may need shunts after all. We've been praying she'd never need them, but if she did then it was time to get it done. Well, not only has her body handled the excess fluid this long, the amount of fluid has actually decreased and her ventricles are almost normal in size compared to previous MRI's. Great news, but still didn't answer the "why" of the seizures. So they are setting Jenny up for a visit with an epilepsy clinic, which means another trip to Denver that they really can't afford.

They also wired her up and did a walking test. She was on a special walkway with all kind of electronic gizmos embedded in it, and that walkway, her legs and hips were wired into a computer that read her gait, how her hips move, what parts of her feet make actual contact, where her knees are in relation to her hips, legs, and feet (she got a kick out of the happy faces they drew on her knees!) and then translated that information into data that showed her pressure points, swivel points, and gait. She walked it both barefoot and in her braces. The result of that test is another consult, and yet another trip to Denver to see an orthopedic surgeon to see if it's time to do the tibial torsion surgery, at least on her left leg, perhaps both. That also means at least 8 weeks casted post op, totally non-weight bearing for the first 4-6 weeks, depending on how fast the bones in her leg(s) heal. Jen is trying hard to get both consults scheduled for the same week so they don't have so many trips, because if they do the surgery then that's a third separate trip, plus more for rechecks and the cast(s) off. <sigh>

Then they did her renal ultrasound, the only part of her checkups that she truly hates. Her kidney function is still perfect and there are no renal issues. She has totally recovered from the UTI she had last month. She hates this test so badly because they have to press the thingy so hard on her belly, and she's super sensitive about the area around her MACE. She's always been that way about it, but right now it's still especially sore due to the abscess. They checked her MACE after her horrible abscess explosion and said it was healing up nicely. That may be, but it darn sure doesn't look very healed yet!

Jenny was also able to take Kendra's school records and IEP with her this time. HA! So much for "mentally retarded" or "globally developmentally delayed!" Those experts who had tested her before were shocked speechless. Kendra has met every single goal on her IEP, and exceeded much of it. She is reading at or above grade level, and the school was finally able to check her comprehension. Remember we knew she could read but weren't sure how much she understood of what she read. Well, her comprehension is just below grade level, which is a heck of a lot more than we'd even hoped! The school's test administrators had her read a short little story, then they asked her questions about what she'd read and let her circle the picture that best answered their questions. She got every one of them right! Same on her math test - every one of them correct too and she's at grade level there too - low end, but there! Jenny had all of those reports and tests with her, and showed them to the two doctors who had done her mental evaluation a couple of years ago. They suddenly decided they wanted to retest her....Jenny told them if it wasn't required, she was declining. Yayyy Jenny!! The last 6 months or so Kendra has absolutely blossomed - there's no other word for it. She tried walking on a 4 footed cane, and is interacting with Katie more than ever before. She used to push Katie away - now she looks for her and gives her hugs and kisses. If Katie is sitting on the couch, Kendra will get up there too and either try to sit on Katie's lap or just lay her head on Katie's lap!

She is also using her talker regularly, and communicating very well with it! When she's got it at home or here, she sometimes just puts together or spells out random words to make sentences, but her speech therapist assures us that it's just like a toddler learning to talk - she's babbling. But if you ask her a question, she'll either type or search for the answer. She also asks for what she wants...when her abscess started she'd search out "I hurt" and "Call the doctor". She LEARNS!!

Evan is doing great in his new school. His grades are up because he's not hamming it up with his best buddy Nathan all of the time, although they still get together on weekends at either his house or Nathan's. He is still playing tuba and made the "Honors Band" this year. We're all gearing up for his annual trip back to South Dakota. It's so hard to have him gone all summer, but he needs time with his dad too. He's really excited about this trip for a change - Dan and his second wife have divorced during the winter so Dan lives alone now. Evan surprised us with his reaction to his dad and stepmom splitting up - he was elated! Turns out that the only person who has ever badmouthed Tam and the rest of our family was Deb, and that little stinker never told anyone because he was so concerned that Tam's feelings might be hurt.

Well, there ya go, Bruce...ain't ya sorry you asked? :gig

Sounds like a great update....

Except for the seizures and the not yet fully healed abscess. :barnie to both of those.

Thanks for the update, Blooie! Sounds like things are going well for the family, prayers that they can figure out the seizures for Kendra.
Onto the next adventure for you!
Yeah, that'll be Thursday for 4 days. But tonight Ken is in Chugwater doing his last of the 42 visitations for this year. Last weekend was his first Cornerstone Ceremony. He looked so spiffy in his top hat and the cornerstone itself was beautiful!

Sounds like a great update....

Except for the seizures and the not yet fully healed abscess. :barnie to both of those.

Yeah, those two things were a bummer, that's for sure! But she's healing, and that's all that matters. It was terrifying when it happened, but if the doctors say it's healing then we'll take it!

Do I detect a shiny new badge, Al?
