Hi all, I'm Stevie. I've been lurking around for some time now just reading articles and looking through the site but thought it time to actually get registered and maybe join in on some of the conversations. I'll start with an introduction.
I've spent most of my life on a farm aside from 7 or 8 year in a small city, never quite felt right there, born to be on a farm I guess. Growing up on the farm we had cattle, pig, sheep, horses, goats, and sometimes llamas. We also had chickens, usually raising 500 or so mainly meat birds, though we had some leghorns for eggs to I think as well as 50 or so turkeys. At one point there where 5 white geese that used to roam the yard, I remember them well, as well as how much it hurt when they bit you and smacked you with those big wings, less than fond memories there. OH, and bantams, little hens and their chicks running all over the barn, I'll always remember them. Funny little ladies, just don't touch their babies!
But that was long ago, now for new chickens and new memories. Here are a few pics of the birds I currently have.
I "believe" she is a black copper moran, she lays a dark, dark brown egg ever 3 or 4 days, sometimes more often
The majority of my girls, some would call them Plymouth Rock, some Barred Rock, I have no idea how to tell one from the other and not overly concerned. They lay plenty of large to extra large light to medium brown eggs. There are 5 of those golden colored ones also, not sure of the species, star maybe?
They use a communal nest for now, I tried separate nests but they always went to one
The flocks protector! Not really but we'll give it to him anyways. A black Cochin I think, stands about twice the size of the others around him but is very timid. I have 4 other full size roosters but they are all locked up right now as we've been in lockdown for winter and they fight like no ones business, so they are each separated, he's too big to fit in a pen though so he has the girls all to himself.
And then we have my Silkies

Ain't they pretty?
And last but not least, I'm guessing some sort of bantam, he's so tiny, but I have no idea what specific breed he is. He has a fantastic rose comb which is why I kept him in the first place, look at that thing.
So that's me and mine, glad to be here and hope to maybe get talking with some of you soon.
