Here is my little 12 week old flock of eight.
First, the hens (or at least, they are supposed to be hens - they are hatchery):
Chookie, the Black Australorpe:
Lady Godiva ("Lady G"), the Silver Cuckoo Marans:
Ms Independence ("Indy," "Little Ms"), the Barred Plymouth Rock
Cluck, the Easter Egger: (named by my 3-year-old nephew)
Gertrude ("Gertie," "Gertie Bird"), the Buff Laced Polish
Steffy, the Speckled Sussex (named by my sister - after herself LOL!)
Madame Oeuf ("Oeuf"), the Salmon Faverolle (her legs aren't very heavily feathered)
And, introducing the known roo...
Pierre le Poulet ("Pierre," "Petey"), the Salmon Faverolle (he only has 4 toes)

I had no idea how much personality a chicken could have! Indy, our Barred Rock, is my little shadow when I'm with them, she even enjoys roosting on my shoulder. Lady G used to be called "Bossy Butt" when they were chicks - she's mellowed quite a bit in the past 12 weeks. We are really hoping to keep Pierre, the roo, but he is getting rather bold with us, so we'll see how that goes. He is just now trying to crow which is one of the funniest and saddest noises I've ever heard!
These chickens are a real joy and we cannot wait to add in a few more layers next year (and maybe some banties for fun!). Right now, I just wanted healthy girls that lay and I'd like a colorful egg basket. However, we have talked about possibly breeding in the year after next. The nice thing is, if we do decide to breed, one of my co-workers family are big into chickens (first as 4-H showers, now as judges) and her oldest son, now that he's aged out of 4-H, is going to start breeding show quality birds to sell. So, I have resources nearby along with Backyard Chicken, of course.
