These are Wyandotte, it started as a hobby, but now my DL wants to try and sell some. That's a lot of chicks! Are these for eggs or meat or both? Or do you sell the chicks?
That's great! I've considered getting meat quail in the future. These are Wyandotte, it started as a hobby, but now my DL wants to try and sell some.
I have butchered some of the cockerels that I hatched, I gave the pullets to whoever gives me eggs.
I hatched over 150 quail this summer, I gave 40 chicks to a friend last week, the rest I will butcher for the family to eat, my son got me started hatching quail because he loves to eat them.
Quail are really easy so is chicken, we grew up butchering our own chickens, mama would tell me how many she wanted butchered, so when I got home from school I would have it done before she got home from work, sometimes it was a dozen or so.That's great! What a fun hobby. I have 18 hens myself and sell the eggs to coworkers. One of my hens just hatched 3 babies so hoping for a flock rooster.
I have butchered a cockerel before and think I could do meat birds in the future when I have more time. It took me a pretty long time to prep, pluck, and butcher a cockerel but I had never done it before so was stopping and starting a YouTube video. I imagine it's easier and faster with practice. I always wondered if it's harder or easier with quail due to their smaller size.
