A few days ago, I posted about an egg that broke but the membrane was still intact. I was not sure it would make it.
I kept it wrapped in a moist sock & put it in a thrown together homemade incubator that I had set up in my closet. I really had my doubts. I have never incubated eggs at all, much less a broken one. I kept a clsoe eye on it, making sure the membrane did not dry out. It was actually pretty cool because you could see the baby moving under the membrane. Well, I could not believe it, but.......
Here is the baby with its big sister/brother looking on:
It really is amazing!
The next day with his/her big brother/sister:
He/she is doing great!!
You can see that there are more eggs in my little homemade incubator. I had to take them away from the Buff Orpington hen that was setting on them. She had one chick to hatch out & once that chick jumped out of the nesting box, she left the eggs & they got a little cold. So, I brought them in & so far, 2 have hatched, plus the broken one. This is my first time trying to hatch eggs & so far, so good!
Just wanted to share my story of my miracle chick! I named him/her Lu (from "hallelujah")
