I'm oing dumpster diving!

I haven't completed securing all the windows with hardware cloth, but this is the little tikes playhouse I made into a grow out coop.

I want to find MORE of these and make a VILLAGE of them. They're perfect for the meet/greet segregation/integration process. And adorable, too.

I never thought about using one for the ducks...... hmmmm.... that would be great because setting up the roost bar has been the most annoying part of the deal. No problem with the hardware cloth, screws and flat washers for the windows, just time... and since the coop is inside the secured area, I admit I've been lazy about that.....

Anyway, I love little tike and playschool playhouse coops! Oh - and a dowl secures the door and windows closed.

I made one of these a couple of weeks ago. For me it really didn't work since they were in there all the time. 4 8 week olds was just to many. It was completly gross and after it rained it just wouldn't dry out. But I know it works for people that have a run.

For the person that said they were looking for one. I placed a post on Freecycle Yahoo group and had 4 people offer me there's!! I think for maybe $25 I covered all the windows with hardware cloth and a latch for the door.

I'm in the process of converting one of these myself. For us cold-winter folks, there is a bit more work to do. At the suggestion of someone else on BYC, I have put silicone caulking along the roof seams and filled in the areas where the walls come together. I have also been filling the walls (between the two layers of plastic) with expanding spray foam to insulate it.

had no door, so made a wooden one to close if I had too....filled with shavings, put a base board so it all didnt fall out...and on the small shelf in there anchored on a milk crate as a nest, and one under the shelf also. They love it...also added some Roost, medium thick branches.

this is what they had before

and this keeps my 4 hens one roo just perfect....when I had babies I used it for 10 of them.

I had posted mine up a while back. The first thing I tried was keeping them in there all the time. I had 4 in there. They were 8 weeks old at the time. With the food & water in there it was too cramped. Plus it got gross after just a few days. This is how it was before!

Then I decided to close in a section in my run. I finished it last night. Works perfectly now!! Have some happy little chickies now!!

Very cool! We were going to get one a few years ago for our goats, but never found one... Now they have a rock garden and everything to play on, but our neighbors down the road have little kids that don't use their playhouses anymore. The neighbors got goats, the play houses went out for the goats

It's amazing what you can use and re-use when you think outside the box!! Very neat
