I don't really know anything about genetics, just want to say that she's so pretty!
Lavender is a recessive gene and requires 2 copies for the bird to show the coloring. The fact that your Easter Egger hen has lavender coloring means she has 2 copies of the gene. The chick has 2 copies as it got one from dad and one from mom.
They will only lay green eggs if the mother has 2 copies of the blue egg gene. If she has only 1 copy of the blue egg gene half will get it and half won’t.Thank you! I was thinking that was the case but since she isn't all Lavender it was just a guessing game as to if the chick would have the color as well. Another one is being incubated right now so I'm interested to see if it also will show Lav. The chicks should lay blue/green eggs right?
