My hen, Lucille, got attacked and she has an injury on her side. It's very bad, I'm worried. I didn't notice it until later, I noticed she was acting different. I'm scared that it's making her sick, she falls over sometimes and passes out easily. I'm giving her doxycycline and spraying wound ointment, and then putting neosporin on it. Do you think I should be bathing her? I did once. Any advice would help. There is a smell from the wound. Ill send a picture

The picture doesn't do it justice, it looks so much worse. The bite goes into her and behind her shredded skin is all black. It is raised up and like I said has a smell

It may be too late for her. But you can try to save her. You need to remove as much of the infected and dead tissue as you can. Then hot compresses to draw out the rest of the infection, but not so hot it burns. Continue the topical antibiotic and the oral antibiotic, maybe increase the dosage.

If she is weakening from lack of appetite, give her sugar water to drink for a few days to keep her glucose up.

Ok, yeah I wasn't sure if I should take the black off, I wasn't sure if it was necrotic or just scabs. But I guess I'll soak her in the bath and take it off just to be safe tonite. Thank you for the advice. She's my favorite hen, she was one of the first I've ever had. I have her here in the air conditioning right now, she's staring into her reflection and not moving at all. I hope she's ok

She's lovely, reminds me of one of my favorites.

Be aggressive in removing all the infected tissue. It will grow back. You may need to do it again tomorrow. Then keep the wound moist with the wound ointment and it will heal better than letting it dry out.

I hope you can save her.
