My Lucille got attacked, need advice please

I'm scared that it's making her sick, she falls over sometimes and passes out easily. I'm giving her doxycycline and spraying wound ointment, and then putting neosporin on it. Do you think I should be bathing her? I did once. Any advice would help. There is a smell from the wound.

The bite goes into her and behind her shredded skin is all black. It is raised up and like I said has a smell
I agree, I give the wound a really good cleaning out.

If you have Chlorhexidine, that's what I would use for cleaning the wound. Chlorhexidine is my go-to for just about any type of wound/cuts on humans and animals.
Then follow the instructions posted earlier for compresses.

My hen, Lucille, got attacked and she has an injury on her side. It's very bad, I'm worried. I didn't notice it until later, I noticed she was acting different. I'm no expert by far but I think I would put Peroxide on the wound several times a day. Then blot it dry with a clean tissue or paper towel. Then apply an antibiotic ointment. When the wound stops oozing/draining then keep using a antibiotic cream until healed. Then apply Aloe Vera Jew a couple times a day for new skin growth. Hope this helps. Like I said, I'm no expert but have experienced lots of things with my animals.

That's her now, she's really out of it. Likes to stare at her reflection though. My poor girl
I have had mine attacked by a fox and had 4 wound bites on them. But saw it happen as I was chasing the dang fox away. Chickens can kinda go into shock for 3-4 days mine have. I keep that vetercyn (not spelled right) and spray it right away into the wounds because it has antibacterial properties in it. With wounds I go get an anti inflammatory from the vet and an antibiotic. So far all of mine have pulled through. But i caught it right away. Good luck to you. I hate when things like this happen. I have one now I am dealing with ascities. (Water belly) 😢

@Bjwkarma It's been a couple of weeks, how is your hen doing?
Can you give an update?

Peroxide can be used for an initial cleaning, but I wouldn't use it more than once since it can damage tissue as well. It would be better to use Saline, Chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) or Povidone Iodine to further clean wounds as needed.

We had a hen who got bit really bad in the back and we didn’t see it for a few days. It was pretty bad but she did make it. Here’s what we did and what I’d recommend.

You need to bathe her everyday or at least every other day until that wound is no longer infected and open. You will want her bathe her in an Epson salt bath. This will dry out some of the dead flesh and clean the wound. If possible swirling the water can help (like a whirlpool bath).

Next you do want to keep her on antibiotics since it is infected. Just make sure you don’t stop to soon or to late.

I’d recommend giving her electrolytes and/or nutri-drench. Don’t give her both in the same water container. But these both will help keep her healthy. You could also feed her canned cat food or cooked eggs if you feel she could use the extra protein.

Lastly, you might have to go in the wound and cut out dead tissue. We used tweezers and a scalpel. You only want to cut the dead stuff, starting from the stuff deepest in the wound.

Be careful that her wound does not close over in the top with dead flesh still deeper inside. This will cause an abscess and will likely kill her.

I really hope she is okay, it really sucks having a bird hurt <3
