Well as an update....I have my geese lay three eggs since I first posted. They started out the size of a large chicken egg but have graduated to a very large egg now.
I am finding these lovely large nests with the males sitting on them. They politely get up and allow me to remove the egg. I have not seen any breeding so these will be baking eggs till spring
Thanks to the responses here, I now know that they do lay earlier than expected and the nests are easy to find...usually right in front of the coop door.
