I love sharing pictures of my baby dolls...and my mallard drake "Chuy" is now moulted into his handsome manly feathers so he's absolutly stunning and not even done completley moulting yet. Mean while my chocolate call drake "Pretzel" is moulting OUT of his breeding plumage he lost his male curly feather too poor baby he looks like a duck now
ANNND is Chuy a crested or is this what can happen when moulting for the first time into breeding plumage? As a wild plumaged boy, the back of his head looked normal, and as a duckling again looked normal...but now that he's got a green head... that's THIS:
This is "McDiver" (hubby named her lol) the mallard hen:
