I have lost 7 of my 30 cornish cross rocks to coccidiosis with in the past 2 days. I treated with sulmet today. I did not know they had it. the first hatchery I bout the first 5 from had did a spray vaccination on them and I did not know it and fed them medicated starter for the first 2 weeks well they turned 2 weeks friday and sunday we had 3 die today I had 4 to die. If any of them make it will we still be able to eat them if not we are just going to cull all of them and count it as a loss. any imput would help greatly thanks.

I am no expert, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, if you are treating them with sulfamethazine, and it is above 80 degrees where you live, make sure you use a treatment level one third of the reccomended dose in their water. They can be poisoned by regular treatment levels if they are drinking more water because of the heat.

Also, have you done a fecal on your birds or a necropsy to make sure that it is cocci? Things like a bloody or spotty intestine are signs of cocci in chicks.

I have no experience with treating coccidiosis in meat birds, so maybe someone else can elaborate on that aspect of it. Good luck and I hope it all turns out well!

they have all the symptoms of cocci. the ruffled feathers and solild blood stool I am pretty sure that it is cocci
