But she's not sure how to get started, really. She wants it to be a sort of duplex, but large enough on each side for 1/6(rooster-hen ratio) Rhody Reds.
I also want a separate coop for my Polish(only a few hens unless I'm forced to order straight run).. possibly bantam.
Does anyone have any ideas or photo suggestions to help us out?

OH! I'm new, too, by the way, hello~

How about you check out the sheds that you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot. JUst figure out the total of chickens that you will be having and multiply by 4. THat will be the SQF that you will need to aim for. But make or buy a little bigger you might want to add some chickens later.

I checked into that last night. To buy a shed big enough at Home Depot, they want 2500. I found that out and went to price lumber.

Here our Lowes is much cheeper on sheds than home depot. Usualy by several hundred $.

If you use lumber you can divide it into fourths to house the amount of birds you plan on getting. Telling you from experience...double whatever you think you need.

You can build a run off of each section that way you can keep your birds separate and safe. Go to all the pics on byc of coops. They will give you some ideas. Welcome!!
