Hello all,

Got this lovely "free to a good home" from a local farm shop as it was an "excess cockerel".

"He" is overly docile, the hens bully him despite his size, and has never once crowed. Indeed, he clucks like a girl and all! Also our "proper" roo never once tried to pick a fight with him...

So for a while we thought it was actually a hen... we've enough that we can't keep track of who's laying what!

Recently our big, lovely salmon faverolles boy passed on, so we're thinking we need a new roo to keep the girls in line. Suddenly this one is looking more and more "male"... Still not crowing or mating, mind.

So... any ideas what this one's actual gender may be... oh, and breed, if any?

its a cockerel

I have a same one

yours is a cockerel speckledy

RIR x Cuckoo Marans

mine is very docile aswell

stopped crowing a day after I got him

will steer clear of the other alpha male and will not mate the girls

he is an odd one but yours and mine are defo boys

Thanks, Habibs Hens, for the information... Speckledy? Really? He looks nothing like my speckledy hens so I never thought of that.

This chicken thing gets more and more interesting every day, LOL!

speckledy's are sex-linked so the hens and cockerels look different

that why he don't look like the hen

he is not supposed to and that and the white head spot as chick on pullets is how you tell them apart
