black star rooster don't look anywhere near like the hens. a black star is a black sex link and those roos are barred and look alot like a barred rock roo

After looking up pics of Black copper marans it does look like one. The only difference is the lack of feathered legs. I'm wondering if some marans can have clean legs? I'm new with some of these breeds too. I've had chickens most my life but they have been your typical breeds orpingtons, barred rocks wyandottes ect. I still need some schooling lol

the french lines have feathered shanks but here are other lines without feathered shanks

looks like a clean legged black copper marans. marans come in both feathered shanks (french) and non-feathered shanks. that is all cockerel as well. also all chicks have spur bumps on them and you can never tell the gender using these as some hens even grow spurs

marans can have black or white legs

I just took a tour of the USA Marans club, and they post that a Marans can have slate legs as long as pink shows between the scales (interesting stuff, I never knew!)

So I think this boy fits that bill nicely, and I'm changing my vote to BC Marans without feathered shanks.

I'm pretty pleased with a BC Marans too, I've never had one of those either. He is a handsome bird for sure. He is much more laid back than the BR cockerel that is the same age and always sparing with my little banty roo :/
