My dad doesn't like any of our chickens. I adore all of my birds as member of the family, and will stand my ground for any of them. Finally, my dad latches onto a bird for the first time, and it's a rooster that I not only plan to get rid of, but despises me. I go into his cage and he kicks up his spurs at me, bites, and fights as if to the death! But he loves my father. I told my dad he has to go (this is rare for me, because I never want to let go of my birds, and usually try to keep them all) and my dad says, "But I really like this one." He couldn't just fall for one of the nice ones that we plan to keep, right?
Too simple. We have about 20 good chickens that could use some lovin'. Lets save it for the one that I'll have to keep my distance from in fear for the rest of my life. I don't honestly see my father sticking his hand in his cage to feed him at all within the next few years. Needless to say, we're giving him away and that's that.
Regardless of what is said, I still stand by my thoughts that he doesn't deserve the love you share with your birds. Trust me, there are plenty other roosters in the world that could use a good home and a warm family. Don't waste your time, energy, and undamaged skin on a bird who is not worth it. Dealt with the same thing early on, by choice, until I snapped out of it and found much more deserving males.
