Hi have chickens, peacock, goats, and ducks. when peahen start laying eggs snake showed up. we killed 5 snakes this week. Today snake killed my 6 week old duck. How to save chicken and peahen eggs? Any suggestion?

I killed 2 snakes yesterday! What's up with this snake thing this year? I have killed 3 and 2 got away. I am rethinking all my runs cages and coops now. I live in Kentucky. Where are you? Are we short on snake predators, or what? Why cant they eat all those grose other kinds of babies instead of our chicks! Luckily, I haven't lost an egg or a chick but I go outside every 30 minutes to an hour during the day to check because I am so freaked out by them right now. I am going to get the deer netting or bird netting and stuff in cracks. oh yeah, and welcome! :)

Thanks a lot. I don't know what to do to safe my chickens. I am going there all of the time, but when I was collecting eggs from another coop snake attacked my duck. even we killed snake, but couldn't save duck.

Welcome to BYC!

X2 on posting in the Predator and Pest section of the forums. But you have to cork every hole and space snakes can enter the coop or run. You can't stop them all as there is always another snake slithering in later.

Good luck with your snake problem and welcome to our flock!

I remember reading sometime back in BYC about a way to stop snakes. The person used chicken wire I believe and unrolled it around the coop and runs, in spirals like a slinky toy. The snakes would try to crawl through it and get tangled up and end up dying without getting to the birds.

Also some people use minnow traps, the snake goes it and can't figure out how to get out.
