My Narragansetts aren't Narragansetts

I was reading this thread (https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=398443) where GoneHomeGrown was asking for help sexing her young Narragansetts. Those aren't Narragansetts, I thought, they don't look anything like mine. And mine are right around the same age, even. I kept wondering why everybody just was saying "hen" or "tom," and no one was saying "by the way, those aren't Narragansetts you've got there." Slowly it dawned on me... what makes me so sure mine are Narragansetts? Well, because I ordered 5 Bourbon Reds and 5 Blue Slates and 5 Narragansetts from Ideal Poultry, that's what. So I looked at pictures of Narragansetts. Lots of pictures. And have now come to the conclusion that my dark turkeys, the ones I was looking at earlier and admiring the beautiful bronze sheen of their feathers in the sunlight... are, in fact, standard Bronze turkeys. Not Narragansetts! I am very glad I didn't embarrass myself by trying to inform GoneHomeGrown that she didn't have Narragansetts! I guess some poult-picker at Ideal made a little mistake!

Take photos of them and email to Ideal. They may give you credit for their mistake. Worth a try.

Meanwhile, a home grown standard bronze taste about as good as a home grown Narragansetts!

Definitely worth asking for a refund or credit. I've received the wrong chicken order once and I've gotten one wrong turkey. These were from different hatcheries and they both gave me credits with no problems.

Mixing narragansett poults and bronze poults is pretty easy to do. I have a hard time telling the difference until the narragansetts start to lighten up.

Years ago, I was sent 100 pullets that I didn't order but was charged for. I called Ideal. They removed the charges and let me keep the chicks.

What happen is I ordered 600 chicks and someone miss counted.

Ive ordered from Ideal this year and all I can say they ......SUCK.....I'll stick with Mc Murry ............................................................................
