Today my neighbors dogs killed half of my flock, 8 Chickens, ranging from full grown to pullets. It would be one thing if my chickens were loose in my front yard but they have a fenced in 1 acre area and these dogs entered from the rear of my property and went on a rampage. All he said was "Sorry and I will replace them." These were my kids pets, and the thing I most fear is that my kids might have been in the back field. If something would have happened to them I'd be writing this from prison lol. So i called animal control. I feel a little bad about it but this guy has a long history of his dogs getting out and chasing and killing other pets. What was funny is I didn't even give a his name or address and they knew who I was talking about. I just hope it all goes well.

I'm glad that your kids weren't out there. They probably would have tried to get between the chickens and the dogs and gotten hurt. So hang onto that - you kids are unharmed. Good for you for calling animal control. We live on a farm - the dogs probably would have been shot here. Hopefully the neighbor will make good on his promise to pay for your chickens. How did they get in? Hopefully you can fix it so it doesn't happen again.

I am so sorry, it just isn't fair sometimes. It isn't the dogs fault either. Hugs to the kidos

Thanks :) yeah the dogs are doing what they do. He breeds Akita's ( Japanese Fighting Dogs) and in the past they have killed cats and chased other dogs. All he said he would do to remedy the problem is chain the dog up. He said someone left the gate open and that's how they got out. I couldn't find how they got through the fence, although i have a seasonal creek running through my field and they may have crawled under the fence there. I hate reporting neighbors because we live out in the country and everyone is doing or building something they shouldn't. And if I was home I would have shot both dogs and buried them. I gave it a lot of thought and said to myself, If I dint report it and something happens to someone elses kids or animals I would feel terrible. So I had only one choice. Thanks for the input!

If this guy is well known to animal control, it's time to get down and dirty. Don't feel bad for being "un-neighborly".
I somehow doubt he would accept an answer of "Sorry, I'll replace them" if someone else's animals came along and killed his breeding dogs.
Sorry for your loss.

So sorry I know how you feel. Calling animal control was the right thing to do! I lost all but 1 girl to a neighbors dog and it is horrible, especially when the neighbor doesn't have much sympathy and doesn't understand these were your kids pets! I hope all goes well.

I was watching my Father-In-Law's Akita/Shepherd mix for a month while he was away on business. And he tried to get my birds and cats everytime they came within stiking distance. I had him on a 15' cable. We were gonna let him have one of our mousers but after watching him try and get them we said no way. And I told him we will not watch the dog again.

You did the best thing. Like you said, it would have been terrible if you didn't, and someone else's kids or animals got hurt. Not everyone would agree with SSS, but if they're a chronic problem....
