My neighbors dogs killed half of my flock.

I think you were totally justified! I called animal control on my own family once for letting their dog lay and die slowly for days after being hit by a car. I didn't feel even a little guilty! So you looking out for your birds and more importantly your CHILDREN is completely in the right! I'm sorry you lost birds, but maybe now with another complaint animal control will finally handle the situation.

Thanks everyone for your support ! I am writing an account of what happened and also about my concerns and submitting it to animal control. They sounded like they are glad to have hard evidence of something happening on this guy and his dogs.

sorry about your chickens, I would've reported him too.

Well I got a call from the Animal Control Officer today and he said I have courses of action:

1. Work it out between him and I.

2. File charges which will deem the dogs " Dangerous" and he will be charged with two misdemeanor counts of trespassing and his dogs killing my livestock.

Update on my situation. My neighbor paid me $ for the chickens his dogs killed and said he would be sure to keep them contained in his yard. Since then they have gotten out over a dozen times. They have killed another neighbors chickens. The case is still on going. Most likely he will lose his " Kennel Permit" and have to pay $200 per dog to license them and also carry a bond required by the county.
