This big boy is Drumstick. Drumstick was the only hatch from about 20 eggs that I purchased from a hatchery. He is a Cuckoo Maran...and my nemesis. He stands about 2.5 to 3" high and is about 10 pounds. He is huge...and has the attitude to go with it. Daily, we spar and try to out-smart each other. He is determined...to get me. The ONLY reason Drumstick is kept around is that he is wonderful to his ladies and does his guard duties extremely well. He paces and fusses over the girls, making sure they know where to look for food and are safe. He gathers everyone up at night and makes them go inside the coop, including the ducks...then sleeps in the opening of the doorway. Very proud of his crow to the point that we yell "Shut up Drumstick" as soon as we walk outside.
I would never, ever buy another one of these just because he is so aggressive BUT he is simply doing his job and I appreciate that fact.
