Does anyone besides me get tired of folks saying roosts need to be 2x4s because chickens can't grip or they need to be able to cover their feet? Tell that to this chicken.

I think everyone that DOESN"T use 2x4's is tired of it!! It's ok, people read something and take it as true. They're just looking out for the birds I guess. I am confident though that my branch roosts will be sufficient. And that's a great picture!!

I use 2 x4's because I don't trust myself with a chainsaw anymore. But I'm still tempted to take down all my "scrub" maple trees. And I think my neighbors might freak out if they saw me slinging a big ole axe. Just saying!

What's wrong with using an ax?! Or a hand saw? We are all getting soft, including me...

Same here...but I have a great pruning saw that's pretty easy to use on anything up to about 4-5 inches.

OOOOH. That sounds exciting. But I am prone to tennis elbow so it just may be too much for me. I do have a bow saw for small branches that might work on little trees.
