I sure hope this one is a girl! With the dark wash on the legs, I remain hopeful. I tried vent sexing and if I'm right, Willow is a girl and the pure BR is a boy. There was a bump on the BR chick and none on the barred EE. Willow has the puffy cheeks and beard with the pea comb. If a girl, I'm hoping for green or olive eggs. :). They are 3 days old as of today.

He/she looks just like a bearded Easter egger. :). This is what I was aiming for.

They both hatched with nice and long wing pinning if that makes a difference.

If all goes right, I'll have another barred EE hatch today or tomorrow. The broody ate my other one I had in the nest that was pipping. >:/

Cute! Have had many of those. You can't tell sex on those until later. Can't sex by the usual ways you do with Barred Rocks. Lost the most beautiful one I ever had, Riley, a week or so ago, my blue barred hen. Would love to have a whole flock of Rileys, such a great girl.

I love my barred rocks! They are the sweetest chickens that I own!

I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

I'll be disappointed if I don't hatch a female, but that's the chance I am willing to take. I had a feeling I wouldn't be able to color sex the mixed breed. My neighbor no longer has her BR male, so this is my one chance to get a barred EE. I hope one out of 2 is a girl.:). I'll have to rehome if a boy upon my husband's request. We only have a 4 acre lot.

I need to move on a farm or farm potential property, so my hubby agrees to keep a rooster around.:p

I'll defiantly wait it out a few weeks before I make a decision.
