Hey all! Some of you may remember that last year I had a serious bear problem, and lost a few chickens, and a lot of sleep. So this year, I took the time to build them a brand new enclosure, and wanted to show you all. Yes, it won't be bear proof, as I don't believe anything is, but it will certainly take him a lot longer to get to the girls if he tries, and I will hear him this time! Check out the owies on the top edge of the fence.....

Whoa, that's some story! Where do you live? I am in central CO, just West of the divide. Since I just got my first chickens, I have yet to experience any predators, but we have lots around. I am going to put a baby monitor up in the coop soon. I admire your tenacity!

I live in Coal Creek Canyon, at 9000 feet. The bears have been around, and our neighbors have seen them but we haven't yet. I sleep very lightly now, and wake up every night to little noises, and look out the window. Nothing yet..but I am sure one will come. He will have to get over the wall of death first, and if he gets in, he will have to get through that double walled coop. He could easily get into the aviary, but if the girls are put away, he'll have to tear up the coop. And if he does it when we are sleeping..I'll hear him. Or the dog will. If we are not home, our dog will not let him come in the yard. I love having chickens so much...bears are not going to stop me, and I'm not letting anymore girls get taken!
