I have been brooding chicks in my house for several years, going from living room to second bedroom to laundry room. I FINALLY have a brooder room to get the birds out of my house! I still have to move the current residents outside in their cages, but here is what we had to start with
a 11'x13' "labor house" used to be where the hired hand lived WAYYY back when. roof was wood shingled, and had 2 windows and a chimney that leaked terrible.
Hubby gutted it completely, so that it was just roof trusses and frame walls.
These are some not so great pics of the inside. We have used it for everything from chickens to turkeys to sick house for goats or birthing house for goats.
But this give you a rough idea of the condition of the house before- old drywall walls with MANY holes through out.
This is the now
New concrete siding, new metal roof, metal deadbolt door, with opening window
all new wiring and insulation, new back window for cross ventalation, new breaker box, one breaker for plug ins, one for lights.
new laminate countertop, new 1 solid piece of vinyl flooring. New drywall, tape, textured and painted
all wood structure hubby built, the counter will be for my 4 incubators
dog crates will go in one corner of room they are double stacked on wheels for easy cleaning around it- currently in laundry room with last of babies
next to that will go a 3 tier rabbit cage, sorry, no pic. Then this unit which can hold 8 bantams and 2 large fowl in show cages for show conditioning.
brooders are 2' x 8' with dividers to make each pen 2'x2' or all open as needed, 2 levels. dividers removable
finished product- bottom also holds 3 large fowl show cages total birds can hold, 16 bantams 5 large fowl and countless chicks in the roll about brooders and 3 tier cage, and 4 incubators.
