What a deal... was only looking for a regular wire cage type. Found this instead...

This is really going to help out as i hatch at staggered hatch weeks. What a deal and it's on wheels.... I just finished washing and sterilizing it so that's why the trays are upside down to dry. I am going to use drip waterers and a PVC tube feeder design i saw in another brooder. this is really going to make it easier to keep more chicks inside at different age groups. Can hardly wait for my first 2010 hatch to break out of their shells... this friday.

I think it will work for older chicks awesome. For the younger babies it might be harder to put a heat lamp in there and regulate temps. I think it would be really drafty on babies before they are feathered out. I think the pull out trays and guards around the sides will really minimize the mess. If you put a little bit of kitty litter or shavings in those pull out pans the poop won't stick and will be easier to clean out. You might want to put their feeder on a section of plywood or all the food will end up in the pans below. I know how mine love to scratch it out. The only other thing I can see is that the wire spacing might be a little big for bantam chicks.

I have a couple of modified heat lamps i used in another wire cages (that now house rabbits) that will work perfectly. They side mount on the cage but the reflector puts all the heat into a confined area... I use a dimmer to regulate output. Control drafts with a giant 'scruchi' made out of old fire resistant coveralls that i can wrap around each cage.

First hatch will be 5 red sex links and 4 Jersey Giants blue/black... should be hatching friday/saturday.

1.5 weeks later 8 Ameraucanas

2 weeks after that Golden Cuckoo Marans, Ameraucanas and Speckled Sussex.

3 weeks after that Danish Brown Leghorns and Chanteclers
