We went to Magnolia Bird Farm yesterday to get a Mate for our boy Cocktail... We walked away with 2 male button quails and 2 females... I thought they were the quitest things ever I fell for them... The dark gray and white is pecking at the other pair.. pulling on their head feathers.. what should I do should I separate them... Or get more females??? Also can anybody tell me if I do indeed have 2 males and 2 females... Thanks in advance!

so...the first one is definitely a female and the second one is a male but the other two I couldn't tell ....try to take a closer picture so we can see better and give you the right answer.

with more then one pair you will need lots of room so they can set up their own territory or you will have worse then plucked feathers, especially sense they are showing signs of aggression already. Be sure you are feeding them a high protein crumble made for gamebirds not just bird seed. they need lots of protein and give them calcium as well. as for the sex of these 4 the top is female and the second is male but like stated above the bottom two will be harder to tell. Check the rear ends, vent area, for any reddish feathers if so then male but on the silvers and whites that is still hard to tell. If you separate them they should call for the mate and if you go to youtube you can find video of males calling compared to females. best of luck and enjoy your birds. they are "Cute as a Button".
