I know this sounds mean but... If they weren't in a coop, what did you expect? There are tons of animals out there, and chickens can't see at night. They'll just sit there while something walks up and grabs them.

* Yep-- chickens at night are just too darn easy prey. If Miss Chook hadn't been right outside the bedroom window when that 1O lb possum grabbed her by the head and I hadn't heard a miniscule flap of wings, that would have been it-- almost was anyhow!!

There definitely ARE cayotes in Florida...but more prevalent is the Florida bobcat and foxes. Even in the city...although not as often...you can spot a fox. Best bet is raccoons or possums, though.
