I always wanted chickens so i went and bought four chicks. They are about 14 weeks old now and have been living outdoors for about 10 weeks now. Its hot here in Arizona already! They seem to be doing just fine outside. There is plenty of shade for them to sit in and lots of fresh water. Anyone give advice to me about keeping chickens in the desert southwest please? Also was told the chicks i bought were all female but the other morning one of them woke me up with some whacky outburst at sunrise. Now what?

Congrats on your babies!

I will tell you that the sexing is not 100% accurate, so it is possible you have a roo mixed in (sure sounds like it!).

Can you post pics? I'd love to see them!

If I remember we have several members from Ariz. I don't know their names offhand, maybe you could rephrase your thread to members in the southwest. You would probably get better response and congratulations you are a proud owner of a rooster(at least I am pretty sure) hatcheries are always sneeking a cokerel in. Most of our cockerels started out as pullets ha ha.
