I have never had chicks that would let me, or anyone else pick them up, until this hatch! (4/21,22) The Grandkids were here playing in the yard, I look out and one of them is holding a chick, with the rest of the chicks standing around them. I watch and they are not chasing them, so nothing need be done,,,but keep an eye out.
But I know this batch and one of them would jump up on the the water tank so I could get him easier. He would stand for a bit in my hand while I pet and talk to him, them fly down. Another also likes to be held and petted. The rest will stay really close by, but dont want to be held, then the 2 white ones, they dont trust anybody. And they all come when called, I like that.
What a difference a rooster can make in the offspring! Even if he is the son,,,

I am shocked, in all my years of raising chickens, I have never had any this friendly or calm around people! The only change was instead of father I used son! A large Black EE very iridescent in the sunshine. He is larger than daddy, and has a better attitude (toward me), not that dad is mean, but just likes to fight with me over the hens.
I know where daddy's mean streak come from too, he is half bantam silkie frizzle,,,
