My new coop

We gave them 9" in the back. It they turn around to look out the windows they have 8" before the poop hits the floor. Hubby wanted to make it 4' wide and I said no I'd never be able to lean in the door to clean it. I still have to lean in as it is.

That puts my handyman skills to shame. The lattice work on the doors reminds me of a woven back bench I built from plans on ana-white.com. Do you have a rough idea of total time and cost invested? How many chickens do you plan on housing?

Hubby said he doesn't have a clue until he looks at his receipts. I know it wasn't anywhere near what that Carolina coop would have cost me. He used 4x4s, and 2x4s all treated on the outside 19gauge rubber coated 1/4" hardcloth. We rented a 24" ditch digger and buried another roll of hardcloth 2' out and 2' underground as well. The coup was all 2x4's and 1/2' plywood on the bottom and on the inside we used the same smart barn wood siding from Lowes. It was 20.00 per sheet. We used 8 sheets. He just said maybe close to 1200.00. The hardware cloth was $180.00. 60.00 just to ship it.
All in all it was a third of a new coop that size. It took us about three weekends and a few hours each night. I did all the landscaping myself in less then 2 days. Under $250.00 with the bench. Best part is we are still married!

Thanks for sharing your costs. I have about $2000 budgeted for our new coop and was worried that would not be enough. How big is your coop and run? Ours is going to be 8' wide and about 28' long. I figure the roofing and the hardware cloth will be the most expensive parts. You have given me hope!

Well, I think you got more than your money worth. It really does look amazing. Now to convince the wife to let me spend the money. But I would have to build atleast 3. One for chickens, one for bantams, and one for ducks/geese.
