I'm so excited!! Earlier this summer I bought a coop from chicken saloon..that claimed to hold up to 10 chickens (that was a joke) I only have 6 and they were way over crowded!! I started doing some part time free ranging to get them out a little but to make a long story short a hawk tried to get one of my chickens... luckily I was able to save it but it was very tramatic for the girls (and me)!! My sweet hubby bought me a new coop & hooked up a new run to it. What do y'all think?

Now that it's larger I would like to get 2 more pullets.. any suggestions on what kinds would work best with my girls (which BTW I would still like advice on exactly what kinds of chickens you think they are?)

That is very cute! I would make one suggestion. If it's possible to rotate the roof on the run to avoid water running down the side of your coop. The water will destroy it prematurely.

I have never had a breed compatibility problem. However, you will have hens with a contentious personality that like to be mean. They work it out and set up their pecking order and are normally good roomates. You could lean on something like https://livestockconservancy.org/images/uploads/docs/pickachicken.pdf to help you decide on a breed, but it comes down to a personal preference. Don't worry about them getting along.

I like the idea of rotating the roof to avoid run off from the run roof going down the side and rotting out the coop. I would also highly recommend using hardware cloth around the whole thing or at least sealing up the triangles between the roof and the fencing. hard to tell from the picture but it looks open and it's just a matter of time before birds of prey and or coons et all will find their way in. the hardware cloth is the only thing I know of that keeps out rats too. you could run a trench around the fenced area and bury the hardware cloth and use black UV resistant zip ties to mend the hardware cloth to the fencing, that way you would not have to add any mother supports and the rats would not be able to get in.
