I hadn't checked back in on this post in a long time, but thanks for the comments. I'm contemplating the whitewash thing on the inside. I re-roofed the building, and it is a bit lighter due to the fresh lumber, but here they use chalk, as they have for centuries, to paint stone buildings white. I have a neighbor with a compressor and the chalk is cheap. The best thing though is that the chalk is a great aid with humidity. It has the ability to hold moisture without losing its adherence aftrer drying like paint would.
We'll see. Around here, the chickens lead a good life as they all free roam, but alas with that freedom, some end up as fox bait. Most of them roost in barns, thougfh some people keep them in fairly small cages after getting sick of losing them to the foxes.
