I asked hubby if he would build me a new duck pen for my silkie ducks. I showed him some pics of what i wanted and this is want he made. There is a door on the side so i can clean out the tub and another one in the back so i can clean out the box. I am getting a pair of calls on sunday so he is in the process of building another for them. Now im waiting for a nice day so i can paint it.

I have you to thank for the idea. I think it is 10 or 12 feet long. I wanted to put a run down to the pond for them but with so many wild critters out here i thought this would be safer for them to be completly inclosed.

Looks nice!!
I need one. I am new to ducks-so if you dont mind a question
Do they stay in there in the winter months? Do you put anything on the bottom?
I like the idea of fencing on the bottom, but I need to plan for cold winter months!!

Its very nice. Your husband did a great job. I've thought about adding a ramp as well to a ground pen. Or at least to let the calls free range with chickens. We'll see. I'm finishing a second one this afternoon for my mandarins.

They will go in the chicken pen in the winter. We plan on putting an enclosed pen in there for them. It gets so cold here in the winter and i keep heat lamps on for my chickens so they should fare okay with them. If they don't i will more them to the heated garage I have a small brooder in there i can keep them in.

I'm working on something similar for my pet Mallard and Call drakes right now. At the speed things get done around here though, I probably won't have them moved into it until next summer.

For now, they're living in rabbit hutches I found on Craigslist and converted into raised duck pens. They're basically the same thing as what the original poster has, except on a much smaller scale.

It looks great. But I would put two more support legs in the middle incase it eventually starts bending from the weight of the water pool.
