my new first-timer coop!

I would lock them in at night forever, regardless--it's just safer. They'll go in to roost anyway, so just lock the door. Everyone has raccoons, LOL. You may not have SEEN them, but they're out there, and they will figure out quickly if there is a free meal for the taking. So please take all precautions. At the very least replace the chicken wire on that coop w/ hardware cloth VERY securely attached, and replace those latches w/ something much more secure.

Best of luck!

I had a similar setup for my first coop's egg doors. I switched to these "not for climbing" (read: cheap) thread locking carabiners. This way things are more protected (having to unscrew it is a bit advanced for my local predators), I'm not spending loads of $, and I don't have to remember a key to get my eggs!

I've got a whole different coop now, still using the same "lock".

I used something similar but is not a clip it actually screws on...2 for 75 cents at walmart...I couldn't pass them up (even with the collors...that green an the other was pink

)...I'm using them on my Run door and my nest box doors....it just can't hurt to be more secure...and it would only be a few dollars
