I built my coop last week , it took four days and I did it all by myself , not bad for a girl . It's my first chicken coop let alone building that I've constructed by myself . It's 6'x6' , the front is 6' and slants down to 5' in the back . The nice thing about this coop is it was entirely FREE !!! I haven't spent a penny . All the materials were recycled , a good portion of the wood came from an old out building I recently tore down and the rest was off of construction sites . The roofing (tin) was left over from another project , the window from an old building , the paint left over from when we painted the house .....
Under the flooring there is wire mesh , to prevent any pesky critters from chewing through the floor . All the walls are lined with aluminun , for the same purpose . Any other suggestions to make it more preditor proof ? Our main concern is weasles and mink , no larger animals come onto the property because of the dogs .
The run is not done yet , but will be around 230 sqf .
Now I just need some chickens !!!
Thanks .
