Thanks to hinkjc, I got the idea to get my Silkie chicks out of the house and into the garage. My garage is very cold(MI), and after reading her post I saw the boxes she had built. Last weekend while gathering supplies to build I came upon this transport crate that was at our farm when we bought it. I experimented with the heat. All I did was fill with bedding and put 2 pieces of styrofoam on the top, 2 lamps in case one goes out. The temp under the lamp is running 80 degrees and 65 degrees away from lamp. This temp is even this high with the top cracked for ventilation. The Silkies are quite happy and growing like mad.

Haha, I just can't help but laugh at Silkies. I don't even know why...they're so cute, but every single time I see one I crack up.

Yeah, like eggzettera said, I bet you're glad to get those babies out of your house. I still have all 18 of mine in the basement. Any time anyone goes down there you can start smelling the farm halfway down the steps.
