My new goat babies

They are very cute! Is it not funny to see which goat takes control? I have two pygmy goats and I would have thought the older bigger one would have taken control......no the little one is the top goat.
I see that you are in NC as well. Do you mind telling me which you purchased your goats? We are thinking about adding some nigerian goats. to our two.

Al's Chicks :

That looks great! Thanks for posting the pictures. Your daughter is a cutie, I have three around her same age that totally mug for the camera, too!

We are converting an old shed into a coop/goat house. I will have seperate "living quarters" for each but they will probably need to use the same door. Any advice on that? Any other advice for having goats and chickens free range together?

No advice yet, it's new to me.

The farm the goats came from had Silkies and Cochins running around, so when I brought the goats home, they completely ingnored the chickens.

My chickens on the other hand were upset for the whole day, but they've settled down. My wife was worried about the possibility that "Hank" our huge Buff Orpington Roo might hurt the goats, particulary Minnie who is so tiny. But, Katie the big girl has already put him in his place.

I thought I would give an update to your question regarding something I have already learned.

I did not have everything planned out very well. I just built there house in the run, with no way to completely seperate the goats and chickens.
when I brought the goats home, I wanted to shut them up to limit how much fresh browse they could get. Didn't want a drastic change in their diet. This however shut the chickens out of their run. I set a nest box out for them to lay in, but I'm not getting very many eggs now, even though I'm letting the goats free range all the time, and they have there normal access to the run back. I'm afraid they've started laying in the woods.

I have always had a feeder with layer mash for my chickens for them to have access to feed "ad lib"

You don't want the goats to be able to get in the chickens feed, they might get bloat, and also the higher calcium in the layer mash. I have not figured this out yet. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can give my chickens access to their feed, but keep the goats out of it? My chickens are pretty fat, so I don't think it is an immediate concern, I've been giving them some feed when the goats were shut up. But, I feel I need a long term solution?

I've thought about this, too. I'm planning on having a "chicken door" that will allow the chickens to enter their portion of the shed. Hopefully, the goats will not try to also enter that small door.
