My new Golden Cuckoo Marans babies :-)

I didnt want to take over anyone elses thread so Im starting my own.

I bought Golden Cuckoo Marans eggs, 7 of them, from Melissa(pasofinofarm). On Jan 28th I put them under my broody hen around 4:30 in the afternoon. So I counted the next day as Day 1, twenty-one days later would have been the 18th. I only had one hatch that day and one pip. On the 19th I had one hatch and and one pip and could hear something in one other one. Its day 23 and I only have 4 chicks(lost one egg early on) and nothing from the other two. One I can barely see a air pocket on(but its there) and the other one looks like its suppose to be, nice big air pocket. So I hope I get all 6 of them to hatch and I hope I get mostly pullets. As I think I already have one roo. Not sure though. Sorry about the pictures I was trying to take them in a hurry as it was a tad windy out and I didnt want them to get too chilled.


Picture #1 and #3 are of the same two chicks. #2 and #4 are of the same chick.

So whatcha think? One girl and one boy?

Those chicks are really cute, and the mama is lovely. I love how spotted they are.

Thanks everyone. I cant wait to go out tomorrow and see what else has turned up.

I am very proud of mama Nemo, she only has one good wing and seems to be doing great! I finally had to take her out of the coop away from the other hens, they were picking at her neck and small wing so bad. Right now she looks kinda like a Naked Neck.

I feel bad that it took me so long to get her set up in another location, but Ive been sick this week and havent been able to do much. I think Im going to wait until Sat. maybe Sun and if the other two dont hatch then toss them. I have 7 other babies waiting to be put under Nemo. I ordered those from Ideal. Three Golden Sex-Links, 2 EEs, and 2 White Leghorns. Hopefully mama will be able to take care of all of them. I know a normal BO would be able to, but with her only have one good wing, Im not sure.

When I went out there to check on them again mama had moved off the nest and with her four babies. The two remaining eggs were still in the nest and cold. I took them out but havent been able to bring my self to open them. I dont know if I can, or if it would help anything? So here are pictures of the 4 babies.

Numbers 1, 2, 3 & 4 are the same two babies. Numbers 5, 6 & 8 are the other two babies.

They are so sweet! I looked up images of the Golden's and they are very attractive.

I have black/silver Cuckoo Maran babies and at just a week old the roos already have attitudes.
