I took down the prefab wooden run. I’m planting cherry bushes where it was, and behind that I built another folding table cage under the deck.
I plan to use the coop part of the old pen as a new male jail, since the current one is a bit trashy looking (kind of looks like a tarp over a pile of garbage). I ordered an apple tree that I’m planting in the far back corner so I’ll put it under the apple tree ( lol sapling) and I’ll just fill it with the same mulch I use for the ground around the tree so it won’t be leaking chips everywhere. with the only light coming in thru the small coop door, which I’ll cover in hardware cloth, it should be good and dark, keeping the boys calm.
I couldn’t bring myself to throw out the attached 3.5x4.5 pen. I covered the open side in hardware cloth, and I put it under the deck. It is a great grow out! There’s a drain pipe from my pump in the basement that runs past the cage behind it. I coudnt put blocks behind the cage due to the pipe, so I pushed it against the pipe, and I put blocks behind the pipe so nothing can dig in. Then I lined that whole back wall in cinderblocks, making a row of cubbies, and they love it!
