My "new" new car...

Mdbucks, there's a link in my OP, I think I did it right. The Focus replaced the Escort. It's a small compact car.
DH has the cushy Taurus, but he only has a single CD player...neener neener. I never even got to use the single though...

Just before I started looking at cars seriously, I found an article on Edmunds where they had a guy go undercover at a dealership and he reported back all the tricks that we get foisted on us. That 4 square thing is funny as heck. Then when they go to the salesmanager for the going up the food chain it's hysterical. Their big thing also is Payments, how much would you like to pay a for a month? Then they spread it over the next million years to get the payment that you want.
That's funny and sad at the same time cheeptrick.
They really hate to see you quote an internet price at them. Then they come back with a Kelly Blue Book price and they seem to think that you're trying to steal their car from them...when they give you jack on the other end for a trade in.
Buying a new car can be a good thing, but it's value drops dramatically as soon as the first wheel hits the side walk.
I'm glad that your Focus is holding up, Angie...my other one I could've had for a very long time except for stupid people who pull out of driveways without looking.

I had a good laugh over this thread. My dad and step-mom are now real estate agents and have been for well over 20 years. Prior to that my dad sold cars, for as long as I can remember plus some before me I'm sure. It was just me and my sister....no brothers. So since I was the "tomboy", I was taught all the models and years of cars based upon the tail lights or brake lights. Of course you know as a child goes, their parents are the best at what they do and have great honesty and integrity. I can't tell you what kind of car salesman he was, but I can tell you that over the years I can remember people or families coming back and buying vehicles from him. I loved sitting in my dad's office and twirling around in the chairs or running to the office where all the ladies worked. They always had candy for us. Dad sold Chevy's so of course those are my choice in vehicles.

That being said, whenever it was time for my hubby (the quarterback) and I to buy another vehicle, he just followed my lead. I acted all sweet and innocent while my hubby acted like he was just trying to pacify me but also had no clue. These salesmen are the ones who had no clue. Now it was really hard to keep from laughing after seeing these guy's faces like "man, I just hit the jackpot on this sale....they won't know what hit them!" When it was time to sink the salesman, I would jump into hyper mode and start talking ACV, croak and choke, negative and positive equity and if he didn't look like he was dying yet...the SPOT DELIVER or in other words, to "brick" someone. Then I would just get on the phone and call the real "quarterback" otherwise known as my dad. Suddenly we had a great deal, low payments, no extended warranty and no stupid disability (croak & choke) or life insurance on the car. I guess salesmen come in all shapes and forms. Just glad one of them was on my side.

Congrats on the new ride. My car is a 1996 Isuzu Oasis (Honda Oddessy) with almost 130,000 miles on it. I can probably get another year or two out of it , but boy am I dreading the new car shopping. We buy new, and then we drive them into the ground. My husband's Mazda 323 had 170,000 miles on it when we donated it to goodwill. Have fun. Its great getting a good deal!
