I just bought my first silkie! She is 6months old and apparently is show quality(like I'd know and like I really care)! She is the sweetest little chicken I have ever met. I have to get better pics of her but I thought I would post this for now. The woman I bought her from wants me to start showing my chickens since many of the ones she has sold me are apparently show quality! I know nothing about showing chickens so I wouldn't even know where to begin! This bird in particular was bought as an egg from a breeder in Nova Scotia. I don't yet know what I am going to call her so if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to suggest them!

Does anyone know how Silkies handle the cold? I live in northern Canada right now and have like 20 other chickens of various breeds(Buff Japs, EE, Cochins, RIR, Brahma....) that live in my barn and roost up in rafters of the barn roof. Should I build lower stuff for them to roost on for the winter?

She's beautiful! Gorgeous!

Definetely a Best of Breed from what I can see in that pic! (Maybe not if you're competing against the original breeder, though! LOL!)
