My New Used Coop

[Rooster Rules]

Here are some pics, 6 ft X 8 ft X 6ft ceilings, fully insulated, nice big window, needs vents and will install another window that opens, going to make a Cupola for the roof.
I took out old shelves/slash cat boxes, and made 1 roost so far, will make another lower roost, and 3-4 nest boxes.
I am housing 5 Bantams in there for winter, need to cut a chicken door, make run later on, will heat slightly, just to keep water from freezing, it is extremely cold here in winter, much like the northern tip of Minnesota, and Alaska.
Some pics, this sucker is heavy, I moved it around and jacked it by hand, it needs to be moved yet to permanent location, either soon or in spring.

I like when the coops are all new and pretty. It looks perfect for some cute little bantams. Good find.

Been busy, renovating inside coop, still need to make a double or triple nest boxes. The coop has heat, lighting, roosts, removable litter board.
I can keep the coop around the freezing point safely, this will help with my 5 little Bantams, when it is -40, this morning it was -2f, so the cold is on the way.
I also installed a brooder lamp, 175 watt, it is double hung with chain, cord is fastened, very secured. Also installed a mini oil rad 700 watt heater, so wont need the heatlamp.
I do not think I will use any extra light to stimulate for eggs, just go natural.

Super cute and LOVE the idea for the chicken wire guarded heater Ive been trying to find out how to put heat in with my 2 girls without light as my RIR pecks my poor little BCM Pullet guess my RIR just doesn't like sharing sleeping quarters as they are fine together during the day but with any light in the night she just picks on her till i turn the lights out!

The heater is a 600 watt oil filled deal, keeps it nice, but not too warm. It is pretty mild today close to 30f, so not needed, but when it is -30, it will sure help......RR

I love that window.. I'd love to have a big one in my coop. Although here in Oklahoma today it was in the 70's so we really don't need it...

Maybe not, but you could always use window light, trust me. Today i scored 2 dual pane awning type windows, 18 X 30 inches, at least one will be in coop, and be used for venting too..been mild at 36f, but no 70s here.

Our temps here Rarely get that cold But we get "wet" cold temps as it barely snows here but it Rains All winter hard for the girls to dry out! Thanks again for the idea
