Do you plan to use an incubator to hatch eggs, or do you have a broody hen?
From the breeds you listed, I am guessing that you do not have a broody hen. You might try to find a broody hen to hatch the eggs for you. Breeds like Buff Orpington, Silkie, Speckled Sussex, and Light Brahma are some that will go go broody. Maybe your neighbor has a broody hen you could borrow.
I am hoping that if I leave the eggs once I know they're fertile so a clutch could build up, and one of the hens will want to sit.
But you're right, I've read my breeds aren't the best. And all I have that's even close is the brown leghorn who sat on some infertile eggs for a little over a day.
I'd rather not do an incubator because what I want is to have the chicks hatch w/ the momma hen (that's if any go broody) and then fence off a chunk of the run and raise them there, so the hens can see them but not hurt the little chicks, so I don't have to reintroduce them to my flock.
My neighbor has a bunch of broody hens so maybe I could borrow one for a while or have her hens hatch my eggs..
