This beautiful baby joined me about 3-4 weeks ago. My male Rouen died and my female Cayuga was all alone so I started looking to find something fast as she was very lonely. Found a woman selling muscovys. I went and picked out this beautiful baby. Had some feathers but was still a lot of baby fuzz.. he/she is growing up to be beautiful. Still no name as I’m not sure if it is a boy or girl but I love him/her already ❤️ and my Cayuga seems to be much happier with a friend ❤️ (first pick is the week I got him/her and in just a month or so look how much she/he has grown❤️

Lovely! Looks to be female, and she is a Black Barred. The barring will unfortunately fade as she moults into her adult feathering although some may remain on the chest and under the wings.
Thank you, I have been trying to figure out what sex but haven’t been able to confidently do so as I swear I heard a (hiss) come from her/him and articles say male but other things it has done has steared towards female.. I will be happy either way as all I wanted was a friend for my Cayuga. Finally named it last night Roan so the name works with way 😂 this breed is very different then all other duck breeds imo

Yes, females can have hissy fits too, lol!

And indeed they are different, because they aren't a breed but a different species altogether!

It looks like it could possibly be a drake. It is hard to tell for sure. As beautiful as it is, I would not want a Muscovy drake mating a Cayuga. Their mating is a bit different from the mallard derived breeds. The drakes take a really long time to mate and weigh so much. There is a possibility that he would drown her during mating. I only mention it, because I would hate for you to lose your Cayuga female. If it is a female, you don't need to worry about issues like that.
