They hopped out of the nest all fluffy and fat and sweet.

This last one the babies are nursing from momma. Awwww. How cute!

They are adorable! I am planning on getting meat rabbits here very soon (to supplement our eggs and the meat chickens we're also planning on!). There is a local breeder who has white and red New Zealand rabbits and I was planning on getting a trio. Is there a difference between your Californians and the New Zealands? Taste/Care etc?

They do grow fast. the babies were born 2 weeks ago tomorrow. They came out of the nest on their own yesterday. They were born about 1/5th their current size, hairless and with their eyes sealed over. Almost like a naked rat. They are so cute.

I really like my big does. They all are show stock and have nice dewlaps. I can see on one of the babies the dewlap starting to darken under the chin already - seems early to me.

The bucks do not have a dewlap.

NZ's are the number 1 meat rabbit. Californains are considered number 2. However I Have been told the californains have a finer bone and with proper feeding and care the meat is almost white and the rumps and thick heavy quarters when harvested.

Angie, they are so cute! My grandma was telling me today that my great-grandmother raised upwards to 200 rabbits at a time on her property for meat, it seems like a very cool thing to do. Great pics.
