My niece named a chicken... oh dear!

So my brother came up for a couple days with my niece and they hadn't seen my chickens yet...

Well, one of my unnamed chicks got a name from her. The innocence of a child, I swear. She decided my gold-laced wyandotte should be named "Pecker" I tried convincing her Peckie or just Peck might be better but she liked that name better... ya know, cause chickens peck.

I just thought I'd share that little story. It's so cute but kinda embarrassing at the same time

I would name the chicken something else, but let the kid call it 'pecker' whenever she visits if she wants to (if she even rememers thats its name). I would just drop the topic and see if she remembers on her own...if not, you've been blessed!

Depending on her age I would debate telling her what being called 'pecker' truely means. At least say "its a notty grown-up word that shouldnt be repeated" That ALL she needs to know...Though seriously she will eventually learn it somehow (as we all have).

In the meantime...you'll just have to smile knowing you have the cutest 'Pecker' around.

Oh how simple children can be. That is just too funny.

Edited to say: Write this all down to embarrass her back when she is grown and has learned more about life. If you really want to get her back later in life then make sure this is the story that is told everytime she brings a new boyfriend home to meet the family!!!!!

I'll leave it to my brother as to whether or not he wants to explain that to her. As for me, I'll just keep it to myself

Course, I don't know if my boys will now start calling it Pecker

THey don't know any better either.

It's hard to come up with all these names, I swear! I don't even have names for all my older chicks yet, let alone the younger ones. It's getting harder to tell them apart, too, if the same breed. Our 2 barred rocks look identical, save the tail being longer on one (Snowflake), who happens to be head hen, I believe. My two black sex-links are almost identical also, besides the tail. Good thing the tails are different or I'd never know! I can tell all the others apart. THey're different colors and breeds.
