I have 5 hens, age 7. My Australorp Eva is failing. She is slow moving, her comb tells me that she is not healthy, and I do not eat her to suffer. Anyone else with old ladies out there? Should I put her down? I absolutely do not want want her to suffer. We have spent hours together in the past week as I soothed her and told her how much she is loved. I just am hesitant for euthanasia because it is so final. But I don't want her to suffer. Any advice/experience would be helpful. Thank you

if you are sure she is dying and cant be saved shoot her with a .22 or pellet gun. you definetly don't want her to suffer.

She is just old.A hen who doesn’t lay anymore typically has a pale comb.If she is eating and drinking and not in pain, leave her be.She could still live another year or two.

That you are asking the question indicates to me that you know it's time to say good by to her. When a hen is acting off, she is already suffering b/c they are hard wired to hide their illness. I use the broomstick method to provide an instant death.
