I have an old hen, rock hen I believe. She was given to me to help with the flock and to keep my rooster company. Well she had stopped laying eggs before I received her. Immediately I thought she had arthritis due to her gate. I found she had kites and treated her and the pen/coop several times. Her scales are coming back to normal but she was severe. Taking some time. Well not only her gate has really gotten worse. I checked several times for bumble foot and she is clear there. When she walks she almost kicks out each step. She also is always squinting both eyes. She eats and poops well. She no longer goes to roost but sleeps in an egg box. I think she does that for a couple reasons. One she doesn’t have to climb the other the box is. Lose to the heater. The other chickens treat her well.
I’ve been told she walks funny because she is blind. Not sure of that by the way I see her interact out in the pen. I have not seen or felt any issues on her body. Still dealing with her scaling due to mites but she is doubt great healing there.
She doesn’t seem like she is in pain. She still makes her little chicken noises with the other birds.
Anyone have any helpful hints?
