Does anyone know offhand why my 2 rir and my 2 easter egger are killing my other new chickens. They are about 4 years old and they are very people friendly

I don't know exactly why but we used to have a killer rooster.... he killed all my white silkies and two oegb hens including my fav one. He was also an oegb.

He was a cage bird and I think that's why he did it. He wasn't "socialized" I guess! He was people friendly as well. Maybe its like dogs.. people aggression vs animal aggression are different?

I rehomed him in March... brought him to an older italian man and he has about 25 big hens, no roos and is doing well there with all the bigger ladies!

I had the same problem with my RIR (aggressive birds). Although the RIR was not the alpha (with the food) she beat up on my newly added leghorn so much that I could see her skull because she had been pecked so much on the head.

I had to kill the RIR.

No more RIRs for me unless they are all RIRs.

How old are you new chickens? It is pecking order & if they are small and do not have hiding places, they may get killed. It is best to have chickens of about the same size when you integrate. I have always found it easier to stick the new hens in at night & put them on the roost. They seem to accept them better.
